![]() ![]() The Art of Rocksteady Studios' Batman takes fans through every stage of the creative process. I want to be clear that I did find the game enjoyable overall, but going back to any game in the series is a bit difficult for me as they seem very much of their time and no games in the series really improved or grew along with the rest of the industry. Collecting the best character sketches, concept art, background paintings, and more from all three of Rocksteady Studios' Arkham games: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight. When I hear the performances, though, it just highlights how long they had been playing those characters. Batman: Arkham Origins concept art is digital, print, drawn, or model artwork created by the official artists for the developer (s) and publishers of the title. This is really a personal hang up of mine, and as I said, having as many of the animated series actors appear as possible was 100% the right choice. ![]() All of the mainstays (Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin) sound very tired. Granted, we're talking 17 years from the debut of that series, so the actors were going to age and that is reflected in their voices. However, the performances of the characters does not live up to that of the animated series. They made the right choice, without question. This one is not a fault of the game devs or the actors involved at all. But there's just something about controlling a hulking Batman that feels wrong to me.Ĥ. I know that we're talking about a comic book character here and creating realistic human anatomy is not exactly a strong suit of American comics (not after the Silver age, anyway). No one has anything resembling true human proportions. It leans really far into the Tim Sale style of Batman and it actually kind of grosses me out. I get that you want Batman to look cool in an effort to make the player feel cool, but that feeling goes away after the first time. The slow motion stuff in the combat (particularly in one boss fight) compound the general problems with the combat and add a lot of extra time to the game that is just wasteful. Arkham went for a fluid, stylish approach, but it does not pay off, in my opinion.Ģ. To be fair, I don't know how you make a great 3D martial arts brawler as there are not very many standout examples. The snap between animations and the weird twists, turns, and leaps that Batman makes when locking on to a "nearby" enemy just looks awful and feels weird. I have never understood why people praised the combat in these games because it in incredibly goofy and repetitive. But I think it's aged considerably in a couple ways:ġ. Navigating the prison island, facing off against the various rogues gallery is so obvious an idea for a game and they made an admirable attempt. Hope on over to the Arkham City fansite to read more about this discovery.īatman: Arkham City is due for release on the 21st Oct 2011 sometime in Q4 2011.I really wish I had played Arkham Asylum when it first came out because playing it for the first time about a year ago or so had me very underwhelmed. It’s all to do with the writing on the billboard – Falcone Warehousing. ![]() Well, they think they have found something in the screenshot above (the one bottom left with “LOUNG” neon sign) showing Batman zip lining. Update 13th October 2010: The Batman Arkham City fansite has been examining these latest Arkham City screenshots with a fine tooth comb looking for any new information about the villains in the game. There was one in particular of Batman standing on a roof just looking down on a street where some thugs were hanging out. There were a few concept pics from AC that I really loved and wouldve loved to turn into poster prints for my wall. Rocksteady Studio’s have also been nice enough to release some concept art from the game, with these 2 shots just oozing atmosphere. I might have to do something with some of these. I’ve heard that Rocksteady Studios has changed the way Batman’s detective mode works to stop players, like me, simply using it all the time. So you only use eagle view for a short time. The downside is that it makes all the other parts of your view so bloody dark that it’s all too easy to fall off a building. This enhances your view of the world, highlighting your target with a bright red colour as well as highlighting other points of interest. You have at your disposal the eagle view. As you’ll see from my review of Batman: Arkham Asylum, my biggest criticism of the game was around Batman’s detective mode being too awesome, too addictive and too damn helpful with absolutely no downsides or drawbacks. ![]()
